Hi SiT readers, the holiday season is among us and I am elated! One of my favorite times to be in Tokyo because things feel a little warmer and look a little brighter :)-- (of course, it could be the blasting heat and Christmas lights everywhere).
I've just recovered from a pretty nasty cold, which I am happy to report has taken me only one week to fully recover. And that is without the aid of any medication. I learned my lesson last year when I went to the doctor's office with a cold and was charged roughly $100 for a bottle of cough syrup and the following advice, "Yes, looks like you have a cold. Drink plenty of liquids, get a lot of rest, and you will recover in no time. Oh, and take this [cough syrup] for your cough."
So, last week when I felt a little scratchiness and tenderness in my throat, I didn't go into the office (unlike last year) to 'tough it out'. Instead, I stayed home, drank plenty of orange juice, ate plenty of soup and slept. Anyway, 3 days later I am all better and luckily I didn't get any of my co-workers sick. You know, I appreciate a good work ethic and all, but going into work when you're sick is not only stupid, it delays your recovery, and it makes your coworkers secretly hate you-- especially when you cough around them and touch door knobs and office equipment all day. Sick people, please stay home!
Anyway, the past few weeks have been great Tokyo discovery periods for me and I have a recommendation. Whether you're a long-term resident or just stopping through, if you're looking for a nice evening relaxing to jazz, go here: http://tokyo.park.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/entertainment/lounges/index.jsp
Not only is the view breathtaking, the drink selections and menu are simply wonderful (I highly the shell crab tortillas for a light snack) but the entertainment is sure to relax you and you will walk away with a guaranteed "Tokyo Moment"!
The live performer now is another sista in Tokyo, Ms. Karen Jones. http://www.karenjoneslive.com/bio.html She's great and will be performing throughout the holiday season. This is ideal for a large group, a couple, or someone solo, looking to check out a nice mellow scene filled with holiday energy, interesting people to watch, and great music to snap your fingers to :).
If you go, please let me know. Perhaps you'll see me there!
