I grew on gospel music and the blues. There's nothing like a soulful and heart-felt gospel song to remind you of God's continuous glory. You ever experienced something that made you ask, "No way, is this really happening??" (look of confusion)
Well, last week I had one of those super intense moments. And this week, the aftermath has been just as challenging. And, after a lot of prayer (sigh) I am still blessed! And I will still continue to be blessed. I am being intentionally vague, because I have chosen not to blog about what happened last week and have instead decided to post a video that helps to articulate my feelings.
The lyrics-- "I have so much to thank God for. So many wonderful blessings and so many open doors..." For every mountain, you've brought me over. For every trial, you've seen my through... For this I give you Praise!" These lyrics are so powerful. Don't you just love when a song expresses something for you? Wither it's gospel, the blues, classical. I absolutely love when you can actually feel the music.
This style of gospel does not appeal to everyone though. That's okay-- it definitely appeals to me and instantly transport me back home on Sunday morning with the smell of bacon and pancakes (my pop cooks the BEST pancakes in the world!!) in the morning air and gospel playing in the background.
Anyway, I would simply like to dedicate this post to those of you currently experiencing difficult times. Don't let it shake you. Continue to move forward and know that your problems, though they may seem greater than you, they are not greater than God. Your perspective is critical!
In other news, I will be meeting with a Sista in Tokyo reader next week. This sista is a research scholar from Princeton who is conducting research on African-Americans in Japan. I am excited to meet up with her to chat about things. Will definitely blog about her and her research after the interview.
