Hi :)
I'm a member of blacktokyo.com (Luna) and got the url to your blog from there.
I'm happy that you're posting about your experiences. I want to go to Tokyo one day to possibly teach english or study abroad.
From what I've read, you're very brave going there with only little knowledge of Japanese. Very admirable. ^^
Well...keep posting! I'm looking forward to reading more!

I am a Black woman, originally from the south too!
I have been in Japan for 5 years. I am so glad that you were brave enough to do this. Don't let the negative experiences bring you down, you will just get stronger. And you will have some great experiences too.
Best of luck to you. :)

Hey Takara,

Hang in there girl! Your experiences in Japan mirror what I have come across in S. Korea. All I have to say is it's ROUGH, it's a challenge, but I think (I hope and pray) that it will be worth it. I look forward to reading more over the next few months. Let me know if you're ever in Korea. I will be teaching here until July of 2004:)
